Position Description
West Virginia State University is seeking a Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Reporting directly
to the Director of Athletics. This full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position is responsible for
the overall organization, direction, supervision, and administration of this NCAA Division II
Women’s Basketball program. Additionally, awarding of athletic grants and scheduling.

Responsibilities for the Head Women’s Basketball Coach

• Provide organization, direction, supervision, and administration of the Women’s

Basketball program.

• Recruit and retain academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
• Develop game strategies, practice plans, and player development programs.
• Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches and support staff.
• Manage program budget, including equipment, travel, and recruiting expenses.
• Promote the program through community engagement, fundraising, and alumni

relations.

• Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university policies and procedures.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive team culture that supports the personal and athletic

development of student-athletes.

• Actively engage in fundraising activities to support the program’s operational and

developmental needs.

Requirements for the Head Women’s Basketball Coach

• A bachelor’s degree is required; and advanced degree is preferred. Candidates should

have a minimum of 5 years of experience in coaching experience, preferably NCAA DII or
DIII or NAIA.

• Knowledge of NCAA rules and demonstrated commitment to compliance.
• Proven success in recruiting, player development, and competitive achievement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Collegiate coaching and playing experience.
• Experience with fundraising and community engagement.
