Currently, SFU is the only Canadian member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)—the largest collegiate sports organization in the world. Our student athletes represent SFU while competing nationally and internationally in 16 varsity sports within two member conferences - the Great Northwest Athletics Conference (GNAC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). However, SFU is expecting to join the U SPORTS collegiate membership for the 2027-2028 season, which will require a transition from USA competition to Canadian competition after 1 final year in the NCAA (2026-2027).
About the Role
The successful candidate will be is under the direct supervision of the Director, Athletics. The candidate will be highly motivated, display effective and positive leadership, and have superior supervision skills in directing and maintaining a successful and competitive basketball program at SFU. The role involves leading the development of the SFU women's basketball program, aligning its objectives with the department's goals. Building strong relationships with department staff, university faculties, clubs, communities, high schools, boosters, and alumni is essential. The position includes providing guidance to student-athletes to help them reach their full academic and athletic potential. It requires adherence to Simon Fraser University's policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensuring the health, safety, integrity, and educational welfare of student-athletes is a key responsibility. The role also involves assisting in the overall growth and promotion of the SFU women's basketball program. Collaboration with various stakeholders and fostering a positive environment is critical for success. Additionally, contributing to the program's long-term success and visibility is expected.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. 5 years coaching experience with high performance athletes aged 16 years and over (i.e. Provincial, National, University/College) with an excellent win/loss record (or an equivalent combination of education and training experience).
Additional Information
Duties & responsibilities include evening & weekend hours for varsity competitions.
