Occupational Summary:
The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach reports to the Athletics Director and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and administering all aspects of the women’s volleyball program. The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach will instruct student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of volleyball while also working to develop the whole student both in and out of the classroom. This position is integral to the success and vitality of both the Volleyball program and the Newman Athletics department.

Work Performed:

1. Direct all aspects of the coaching and management of a competitive NCAA Division II women’s volleyball program.
2. Oversee the recruiting and retention of qualified NCAA Division II student-athletes (in accordance with NCAA Bylaws).
3. Work with the Admissions Department to expedite the registration, admission, and other administrative processing of all student-athletes.
4. Instruct 1 credit hour course(s) per semester within the Department of Athletics.
5. Instruct student-athletes in the areas of physical health, team concepts and safety in a way that motivates maximum level of individual and team athletic performance.
6. Demonstrate a working knowledge of and ability to comply with all NCAA Division II, MIAA Conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
7. Submit all NCAA Division II compliance documentation, in accordance with deadlines, as requested by the Associate AD/Compliance and the Athletics Director.
8. Monitor the eligibility status of student-athletes and mentor student-athletes in their academic progress to assure timely progress-toward-degree completion.
9. Work with Athletic Performance coaches to oversee the conditioning and weight training of student-athletes to ensure they are physically prepared for competition.
10. Promote the general health and safety of student-athletes, including the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student athletes to be successful in the classroom, in competition, and in future endeavors.
11. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions.
12. Arrange a competitive game schedule with approval of the Athletics Director.
13. Plan all team travel arrangements with approval of the Athletics Director.
14. Participate in fundraising, promotional, and public relations events within the community, including on-campus and off-campus, specifically booster club activities and community engagement/service projects.
15. Serve as a role model for the student athletes by exhibiting ethical and professional conduct in accordance with the mission of Newman University.
16. Plan, conduct, and manage volleyball camps, clinics, or leagues, as appropriate, within the guidelines and regulations of NCAA Bylaw 13.12.
17. Manage the program within its established budget.
18. Complete all University-required trainings including Title IX and FERPA.
19. Contribute to the overall success of the Athletics Department by performing all other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training: 1. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university. 2. Experience as a successful volleyball coach, preferably as a head coach at the college level. 3. Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle check. 4. Ability to recruit and retain qualified NCAA student-athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation. 5. Effective leadership and strong oral and written communication skills. 6. Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations preferred and ability to pass the NCAA Division II recruiting test prior to beginning duties at Newman University. Certification must occur on an annual basis (Bylaw 11.5.1.1). 7. Sound human relations skills in dealing with student-athletes, university personnel, and members of the off-campus community. 8. Ability to participate with fundraising within the community. 9. Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary. 10. Must be willing to be certified in First-aid and CPR, as required by NCAA rules. 11. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements: (Indoor) 1. Position requires durability. 2. Health and safety factors to be considered include injuries from court related activities and training responsibilities.

(See Bylaw 10 for more specific ethical-conduct standards that apply to all institutional staff members and student-athletes.)

Institutional staff members found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension of pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations, whether such violations occurred at the certifying institution or during the individual’s previous employment at another member institution. It shall be the responsibility of the head coach to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the program and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators within the program who report directly or indirectly to the head coach (Bylaw 11.1.2.1)._
