Head Wrestling Coach
The Head Wrestling Coach works as a member of the Athletic Department. Responsibilities include planning and directing the recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student-athletes, along with fiscal management, for a
NAIA
wrestling program. Previous collegiate head coaching experience preferred. The candidate must:
Have a strong focus on student-athlete academic success.
Insist on exemplary student-athlete behaviors both on campus and in public.
Have extensive coaching experience at either the high school or college level.
Direct instruction of student-athletes relative to the skills and strategies necessary to compete in wrestling at the collegiate level.
Develop coaching techniques, players and overall strategies; evaluate individual performances and provide leadership and instruction in areas deemed necessary for success.
Plan and coordinate team travel arrangements to include means used, equipment to be taken, logistics, etc.
Conduct comprehensive recruiting activities, coordinate with Admissions Office to establish academic eligibility and possible financial aid packages.
Participate in fundraising, public relations activities, e.g., public appearances, attendance at conferences, etc.
Ensure compliance with
NAIA
rules and regulations.
Hire, train, and supervise assistant or student assistant coaches.
Coach his/her team.
Develop a yearly budget and control spending to ensure the sport is not over budget.
Be familiar with the eligibility requirements for
NAIA
student athletes and teams and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
Supervise student-athletes during practice and games to ensure that the highest standards of sportsmanship and integrity are maintained.
Conduct outreach activity(s) in the local community.
Other duties assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Valid Texas driver’s license required.
Head collegiate or high school coaching experience preferred, or also having played the sport at a high level (i.e. college)
Coaching strategies specific to wrestling.
Knowledge of
NCAA
and
NAIA
rules for wrestling.
Familiarity with
NAIA
rules and procedures.
Instructing student-athletes relative to specific skill necessary to compete in collegiate wrestling.
Ability and authority to drive a 15-passenger van, i.e. a safe driving record.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to Senior Staff, public groups, managers and employees.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with
FERPA
regulations.
Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
Ability to be able to work evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.
Ability to attend match commitments which can be between 10 to 15 matches on the road (sometimes more including playoff games).
