Position Summary & Description

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applicants for the position of Assistant Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field to assist in directing, organizing and administering all aspects of the IUP Cross Country and Track and Field programs. The Assistant Coach will assist in building a nationally competitive program at the Division II level and create a quality student-athlete experience in academics, athletics, and community service. About IUP Indiana University of Pennsylvania, founded in 1875, is a vibrant, comprehensive, research-based, teaching-focused, student-centered learning community and is home to 9,254 students from 48 states and 64 countries. IUP students’ study across 160+ associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Main campus is in Indiana, Pennsylvania, just an hour northeast of Pittsburgh. IUP Athletics is a premier Division II Athletics program, competing as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Duties: Assist in directing, organizing, and administering all aspects of the IUP Track and Field program at the DII level. Assist in player recruitment by maintaining contact with high school coaches to identify potential prospects, recommending schools to be visited, developing a recruiting schedule, and recommending students for recruitment and scholarships. Assist in monitoring and encouraging academic progress and success of student athletes to ensure continuing eligibility to participate in NCAA competition and to graduate Assist in ensuring compliance with rules and regulations of IUP, the PSAC, and the NCAA. Assist in the coordination of scheduling/managing track and field meets. Assist in coordinating and participating in fundraising activities in support of IUP’s athletic programs. Assist in facilitating and operating track and field camps/clinics. Assist in formulating team policies and procedures. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head Track and Field Coach or Director of Athletics.

Position Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of coaching experience, OR
  • One to three years of professional coaching or professional playing experience.
  • Experience and/or training regarding specific events (i.e., long distance, middle distance, sprints, hurdles, jumps, multis and/or throws).

Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
