The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the women's basketball program at Georgia College & State University. This position requires a dedicated professional who can assist with recruiting talented student-athletes, developing competitive teams, and fostering academic excellence while maintaining the highest standards of NCAA Division II compliance and institutional integrity.
Program Support -
Assist in implementing the comprehensive vision and strategic plan for the women's basketball program
· Support program culture emphasizing academic achievement, athletic excellence, and character development
· Assist with team operations including practice planning, game preparation, and competition management
· Support athletics administration with budget planning, facility management, and program needs
Coaching and Player Development -
Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting all team practices, training sessions, and competitive events
· Help develop game strategies, scouting reports, and tactical approaches for optimal team performance
· Provide individual skill development and mentoring for assigned student-athletes
· Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement under head coach supervision
· Assist with team travel coordination, equipment management, and practice facility oversight
· Serve as assistant coach during games and competitions
Recruitment and Retention Support -
¿ Assist in identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes who meet academic and athletic standards
¿ Help develop and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club teams, and recruiting contacts
¿ Participate in campus visits and home visits in accordance with NCAA regulations and under head coach direction
¿ Support collaboration with admissions and financial aid offices for recruited athlete enrollment
¿ Assist with retention strategies to support student-athlete success and program continuity
Academic Support and Student-Athlete Welfare -
¿ Monitor academic progress of assigned student-athletes and ensure eligibility requirements are met
¿ Work with academic support services to coordinate tutoring and study resources
¿ Support efforts to promote graduation rates and academic achievement within the program
¿ Assist with student-athlete personal development and career preparation initiatives
¿ Help address disciplinary issues and provide guidance on personal conduct as directed by head coach
Compliance & Administration -
¿ Ensure full compliance with all NCAA Division II, conference, and institutional rules and regulations in assigned duties
¿ Assist with program budget management, including travel, equipment, and recruiting expenses
¿ Help maintain accurate records of recruiting activities, eligibility documentation, and team statistics
¿ Support coordination with sports information for media relations and promotional activities
¿ Participate in fundraising activities and alumni engagement events as directed
¿ Assist with required reports and documentation for athletic administration
Community Engagement -
¿ Represent the university and athletic program at community events and functions as assigned
¿ Help develop relationships with local basketball communities and youth programs
¿ Participate in university marketing and promotional initiatives
¿ Support engagement efforts with alumni, donors, and supporters of the program
Additional Responsibilities -
¿ Perform scouting duties for upcoming opponents
¿ Assist with summer camps and clinics
¿ Support strength and conditioning coordination for team members
¿ Handle other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required

- Previous experience or demonstrated aptitude for recruiting and player evaluation
Required Experience
- Minimum of 1-3 years of college coaching experience or equivalent combination of playing and coaching experience
Preferred Educational Qualifications
- Master's degree in relevant field
Preferred Experience
- Previous assistant coaching experience at the collegiate level
- Experience with video analysis software and modern coaching technologies
- Playing experience at the collegiate or professional level
- Experience working with student-athlete academic support programs
