Job Summary:
The Assistant Athletics Director/Director of Facilities, Operations, and Events is the lead role for the staff tasked with scheduling, coordinating all activities in athletics facilities, and game operations lead for all home events. The position works closely with the Director of Drake’s Recreation Services and Programs on events held in athletics and recreation facilities spaces.
The Assistant Athletics Director/Director is responsible for the budget including expense and revenue projections. The position supervises two full-time staff members and a student staff. The Assistant Athletics Director/Director is a leadership position within the department and will attend monthly department head meetings led by the Athletic Director.
The position will serve as a liaison with Des Moines Public Schools on Mediacom Stadium, and community organizations hosting events in Drake Athletics facilities.
The Assistant Athletics Director/Director will have a significant role in the operation of the Drake Relays and Conference/NCAA Championships along with outside events which include examples such as the Iowa High School State Track Meet and 2026 AAU Junior Olympics.
All of the essential job duties described below require an understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Missouri Valley Conference, and Drake University.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Baccalaureate Degree – knowledge of specialized principles or techniques normally obtained through a four-year college/university academic program or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program directly related to the type of work being performed
• 5-7 years of experience
Job Duties:
50% - Schedule and coordinate all activities in athletics and recreational facilities. Activities include athletics home events, convocation, recreational activities, campus wide lectures and events, external rentals such as sports events, sports tournaments and concerts. Oversee daily operation of all athletics and recreational facilities. - (Essential)
20% - Coordinate set up and tear down of all events held in athletic and coordinate with Recreation Programs and Services staff on any recreational facilities needs. - (Essential)
20% - Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of two full-time staff members and student staff. - (Essential)
5% - Monitor facility budgets. Execute contracts and billing. - (Essential)
5% - Coordinate all maintenance, upkeep, and repair projects within athletics facilities. Perform other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
