Essential Functions

Job Summary

Assist Head coach to provide management of the men’s basketball program.

Responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, on-court coaching, serves as community relations liaison for the men’s basketball program to public, and monitor academic progress of student-athletes.

Core Responsibilities

1. Be knowledgeable of and adhere to NCAA and conference rules.
2. Recruit quality student athletes.
3. Monitor satisfactory academic progress of student athlete and help arrange for necessary academic counseling through Athletics Academic Coordinator.
4. Assist Head Coach with on the floor coaching.
5. Assist Head Coach with recruitment of student athletes.
6. Assist Head Coach with basketball training of student athletes.
7. Assist Head Coach with scheduling of opponents.
8. Work with the Athletics Administration in matters of public relations and promotions.
9. Be active in fund raising for the Athletics Department.
10. Support student-athlete development programs and assure student-athlete welfare of team by being respectful.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Three (3) years of experience as a basketball student-athlete or coach.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Specific knowledge in the sport of men’s basketball and knowledge and compliance with all NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and The American Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility.

• Valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.

Working Conditions

• Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
• Occasional after hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

Physical Demands:    

• Physical activity in the sport of men’s basketball, weekend and evening hours and required travel.
• Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasional.
   

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
