Description:
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the
Head Men’s Basketball Coach
is responsible for leading the men’s basketball program as an intercollegiate sport at Missouri Western State University. The Head Men’s Basketball Coach is responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of operating an
NCAA
Division II Men’s basketball program within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics.
The head Men’s basketball coach will guide and actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically, acquire a degree and represent
MWSU
with the highest integrity. The head Men’s basketball coach directly supervises all assistant coaches, student-athletes, video personnel and managers. The coach is also responsible for budget development and administration, recruitment of student-athletes, adherence to
NCAA
, Conference and
MWSU
regulations regarding recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, the scheduling of athletic practices and contests, and the establishment of effective media relations. The head coach will play a major role in fundraising activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community when appropriate.
Essential Job Duties:
As Head Men’s Basketball Coach, direct involvement with all administrative and organizational aspects of an
NCAA
Division II program under the supervision of the Director of Athletics.
Supervision of assistant coaches, administrative staff, and or student work/interns with responsibilities for the overall operation of the program
Coordinate all coaching assignments for the entire basketball coaching staff including film breakdown, on court responsibilities and all administrative responsibilities with regards to team and recruiting travel.
Supervision of all student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players’ health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation.
Responsible for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to meet MWSU’s admission standards and enrollment goals
In cooperation with the Assistant AD for Compliance uphold all
MWSU
academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility.
Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations regarding the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members.
Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes.
Recommend to the Director of Athletics, an annual budget for the program and operate within the approved budget.
Provide signature review of all expenditures within the basketball operating budget, for submission to the Director of Athletics.
Designate the responsibility for all team and travel, meals and ensure lodging with prompt resolution of accounts.
Prepare a competition schedule for approval by the Director of Athletics.
Participate in public relations and promotions activities.
Cultivate and solicit donors to meet the fundraising goals as established by the Director of Athletics.
Establish and maintain positive relations with the media.
Knowledge of and adherence to all University,
NCAA
and Conference Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures with special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions and financial aid.
Bachelor’s degree required.
A minimum of at least four years of head coaching experience at the intercollegiate level with demonstrated ability to organize and develop a comprehensive recruiting plan
Knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, admissions and financial aid officers, fellow employees, program boosters, and the public
Valid driver’s license
Master’s degree preferred
Exempt
Required travel for recruiting and competition.
