Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Mental Health, Wellness and Performance, the split role of Mental Health Coordinator/Mental Performance Coach works with TUWell staff to coordinate comprehensive mental health and wellness services to Division I collegiate student-athletes. This position is responsible for coordinating and scheduling appointments for TUWell clinicians; triaging referrals through brief clinical assessments to determine the level of care and disposition; intervening with students in crisis and providing support, resources, and information; keeping an up-to-date database of community referrals; and delivering outreach to university and community partners, providers and resources. The Mental Health Coordinator will perform other duties as assigned.
The Mental Performance Coach at TUWell will provide comprehensive mental performance consultation services to student-athletes and teams at Temple University. This position will have a caseload of up to six teams and offer one-on-one sessions for student-athletes, mental performance training programs for teams, and coach consultations. This position is also charged with referring potential mental health concerns to fellow practitioners in TUWell and outside resources depending on the concern.
Required Education & Experience:
*Bachelor’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical setting with direct patient care, case management, and psychosocial issues of children or young adults.
*Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP)
Preferred Qualifications:
*Licensed Master of Social Work (LSW)
*Experience in intercollegiate athletics or clinical setting
*Master’s Degree in relevant field.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Knowledge and understanding of clinical/counseling psychology and/or social work.
*Knowledge about performance psychology theories and frameworks and their application to practice.
*Knowledge of psychological testing standards and principles.
*Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization.
*Experience providing brief and long-term individual mental performance consultation with athletes.
*Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive mental training programs for teams.
*Ability to make accurate judgments concerning the physical, emotional, and educational welfare of student-athletes.
*Ability to educate and present to the athletic department/university community a wide variety of psychological topics.
*Knowledge of community-based resources.
*Commitment to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly as pertains to hiring.
*Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
*Ability to understand and uphold the mission and goals of the athletic department.
*Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
*Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
*Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects with competing deadlines.
*Experience working with diverse populations.
*Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently.
*Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
*Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
