Midway University invites applications for a Part-Time Esports Head Coach to lead and grow our esports program. This is not a virtual or remote role.
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, organized, and student-centered individual. The successful candidate will be responsible for all facets of program management, including student-athlete recruitment, competitive team development, and scheduling.
Program Management
Oversee all day-to-day operations of the university’s esports program, including budgeting, scheduling, and facility coordination.
Establish and enforce program policies, codes of conduct, and academic eligibility standards consistent with institutional requirements.
Coordinate participation in collegiate esports leagues, conferences, and tournaments (e.g., NACE, NECC, or equivalent).
Maintain accurate records of student-athlete eligibility, rosters, and competition results.
Coaching & Student Development
Provide strategic coaching and skill development for student-athletes across program titles.
Foster a team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, personal growth, academic success, and mental well-being.
Conduct regular practices, film review sessions, and competitive preparation.
Support student-athletes in balancing athletic and academic responsibilities.
Recruiting
Meet annual recruiting benchmarks as established by the Athletics Department.
Develop and execute a proactive recruiting plan targeting prospective student-athletes at the high school and transfer levels.
Represent the university at esports events, high school programs, and community tournaments to build brand awareness and identify talent.
Communicate effectively with prospective students and their families throughout the admissions process in partnership with the Office of Admissions.
Community & Institutional Engagement
Collaborate with campus departments (Student Life, IT, Marketing) to promote the esports program and support broader university initiatives.
Identify opportunities for community outreach, partnerships with local gaming communities, and fundraising.
Represent the esports program with professionalism at university functions and public events.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated experience in esports, competitive gaming, or a related field (coaching, program administration, event management, or playing at a collegiate or semi-professional level).
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as competition schedules require.
Commitment to the academic success and holistic development of student-athletes.
Preferred
Prior coaching or program management experience in collegiate esports setting.
Familiarity with collegiate esports governing bodies and league structures (NACE, NECC, Tespa, etc.).
Experience with recruitment in an educational environment.
Proficiency with streaming, broadcast, or content creation tools.
Knowledge of multiple competitive titles across genres (FPS, MOBA, Battle Royale, Sports Sims, etc.).
