Residence Hall Director & Assistant Football Coach

PURPOSE:

The Residence Hall Director and Assistant Football Coach is a live-in professional staff member who plays a pivotal role in fostering the educational, personal, and social development of students at Lincoln University. Reporting to the Associate Director for Residence Life and Student Development, with a secondary reporting line to the Head Football Coach, this dual-role position combines traditional residence hall management with responsibilities in collegiate athletics.

As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Residence Hall Director is responsible for the comprehensive administration of one to two residential communities, including the supervision of 3-12 Resident Assistants (RAs), coordination of developmental programming, promotion of safety and security, and the cultivation of inclusive, vibrant living environments. In their capacity as Assistant Football Coach, the successful candidate will support the Head Coach in all aspects of football operations and contribute to the overall development of student-athletes. This position requires commitment to holistic student development, diversity and inclusion, critical thinking, and proactive problem-solving.

The successful candidate will serve as a key resource for students, collaborate effectively with campus partners, provide crisis response and on-call support, and uphold the University's mission and commitment to holistic student development.

Residential Community Leadership and Management:

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for residential communities aligned with university goals.
• Ensure residential facilities meet health, safety, and security standards.
• Promote an inclusive community that supports the needs of underrepresented student populations.
• Oversee the daily operations of one to two residence halls.
• Assist in hall security and facility management efforts, including key control and health/safety inspections.

Residential Community Leadership and Management:

Student Supervision and Development:

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a staff of 5 - 12 Resident Assistants: lead staff training, development, and teambuilding activities.

Community Standards and Conduct Administration:

• Serve as an administrative hearing officer for student conduct cases related to residence life and housing policy violations.
• Educate residents about community standards, policies, and their rights and responsibilities.
• Maintain accurate conduct records and submit timely reports using the Maxient conduct management system, including instances such as students of concern, student behavioral issues, sexual misconduct allegations, and other relevant student conduct matters.

Student Support and Crisis Intervention:

• Provide crisis intervention and support to residents, making referrals to the CARE team or other support offices as appropriate.
• Participate in a rotating on-call duty schedule that includes after-hours, weekend, and holiday coverage to respond to student emergencies and incidents.
• Advise and support residents in their academic, social, and personal development.
• Assist in campus retention and student success initiatives through relationship-building, outreach, and early intervention.

Athletics:

• Oversee all aspects of the defensive back's academics and player personnel.
• Assist the Head Football Coach with recruiting, student-athlete, personal/professional development, academic advising, scouting reports, film review, and game preparation.
• Operate within the guidelines of Lincoln University, GLVC, and NCAA Rules and Regulations.
• Support Head Coach with maintaining atmosphere of compliance, student-athlete wellbeing, diversity, equity and inclusion, and championship culture.
• Collaborate extensively with other departments on campus including but not limited to Student Affairs, Provost/Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, Advancement, and Student Success.
• Conduct internal/external engagement, i.e. phone, email, mailing, zoom with various constituent groups including, but not limited to faculty, staff, students, university personnel, donors, alumni, and fans.
• Travel required as it relates to position's responsibilities.
• Other responsibilities/duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach.

Collaboration and Administration:

• Support the development and implementation of residential learning communities in collaboration with faculty and staff.
• Collaborate with campus partners to enhance academic support, wellness initiatives, and identity-based programming within the residence halls.
• Participate in departmental recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation processes for student and professional staff.
• Collect and analyze data on housing trends, student satisfaction, and program outcomes to inform strategic decisions.
• Recommend policy improvements in support of student success and retention.
• Foster relationships with key campus partners, including Academic Advising, Student Health & Well-being, Student Conduct, Student Engagement, and Career Services.
• Collaborate with the Office of Engagement to promote, support, and actively participate in campus events and initiatives that enhance student involvement and community building.
• Contribute to housing and residence life-wide initiatives, planning, assessment, and special projects.
• Serve as a member of university-wide committees and emergency response teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Student Affairs Officer & Dean of Students.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum one year experience in University Residence Life and Housing or Athletics is required.
• Experience in student accountability and an awareness of emerging issues in higher education, residence life and housing, community building, and student learning.
• Proven competence in leadership and supervision of students and staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

• Knowledge of The Housing Director through StarRez software, Maxient student conduct software, Adobe Suite and proficient in using Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, develop communication strategies and work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail; ability to perform duties with high accuracy.
• Ability to work with and maintain confidential University information.
• Ability to adapt to a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Light sedentary office work.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Terms of Employment:

• This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position.
• Evening and weekend On-Call Duty Rotation Responsibilities Required.
