Apply NowThis position will be responsible for assisting in all phases of a Division I program, reporting to the Director of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track and field. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching, recruiting, and evaluating prospective student-athletes, home meet management, administrative duties, public relations, and other duties assigned by the Director. Bachelor’s degree, experience in competition and/or coaching experience at the college level, excellent communications skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel are preferred. The second assistant coach is responsible for conducting any duties or activities with integrity and within the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (
NCAA
), the America East Conference, the University of New Hampshire, and the state of New Hampshire.
Duties
Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes at the University of New Hampshire. The Assistant Coach of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field programs will include planning training and conditioning programs; organizing practice sessions; developing and retaining athletically talented student-athletes to compete successfully within the conference, regionally, and/or nationally. Under the direction of the Director, provide coaching in both a team and individual setting to improve sport-specific skills in areas of Distance Running, Sprints, Jumps, Multi’s, and/or Throws. Evening and weekend work will be expected.”
Assess talent and actively recruit talented student-athletes to Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field programs who are suitable for the
UNH
academic programs. This includes traveling to evaluate abilities, phone calls, letter writing, on-campus meetings, and scholarship recommendations. Attend all mandatory
NCAA
compliance meetings and maintain appropriate forms and documentation to be reviewed upon request. Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of, compliance with, state and federal laws, University policies/regulations, America East Conference rules/policies, and
NCAA
rules. Report to the Director of Athletics any violation of
NCAA
, conference, and/or institutional rules.
Encourage student-athletes to perform to their highest academic potential, monitoring student-athletes ’ progress toward degree requirements to remain eligible. Monitor the retention and eligibility of student-athletes as it impacts the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field programs Academic Progress Rate (
APR
) and Graduation Success Rate (
GSR
).
Assist Director of Track & Field with planning, preparation, and implementation of collegiate and high school competitions.
Assists with daily operations and the overall administration of the sports program. Serve as the practice coordinator, communicating with athletic operations practice times and needs.
Assist in the planning of team travel to include securing hotels, buses, travel itineraries, and meals, coordinating the travel party with the head coach, and handling travel money and per diems.
Assist with social media, public relations, and fundraising
Evening and weekend work will be expected
Durham
Bachelor’s degree required
Possession of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as organizational skills
Strong computing skills including database manipulation, email and calendar savvy, technological teaching tools, video analysis, and manipulation.
