The Special Events Manager is responsible for overall management of parking operations for all University of Maryland home football and men’s basketball games, as well as all other necessary athletics events. This position also manages parking operations for major university functions and events, such as commencements for
UMD
,
UMGC
, and Prince George’s County high schools. Additional events may include, but are not limited to, Maryland Day, university open house, events hosted by the Riggs Alumni Center, Conferences and Visitor Services, and more.
The manager is responsible for:
Managing the department’s Motorist Assistance program. This includes, but is not limited to, unlocking vehicles, jump starting vehicles, inflating tires and providing fuel for vehicles on campus.
The oversight of student hiring and scheduling, auxiliary parking enforcement activities, entry of Motorist Assistance data and special event documentation and purchasing.
Managing staff to work together to manage field parking operations for special events, ensure all staff are aware of department policies and can communicate them accurately to customers and the public.
Managing all aspects of the contract for staffing support for special events.
Attending meetings to represent the Department of Transportation Services and coordinate parking for all campus special events.
Ensuring that Special Events staff are assisting with the enforcement of department parking regulations when able.
Training and supporting all Special Events staff to ensure they have the knowledge necessary to issue parking citations in a manner approved by the manager of the Parking Enforcement Section.
Ensuring that the Special Events section supports all the other sections of the department and provides assistance whenever needed.
Oversee finances and communication with the online parking vendor for online permit sales for all major events.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years experience managing parking for large-scale special events and working with contracted services.
Minimum of 2 years experience directly supervising staff.
Experience working in a university setting and with athletic events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
Comfort with communicating regularly with individuals on all levels at the university.
Outstanding organizational skills, as this position requires extreme attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and demands on time effectively.
Ability to work evenings and weekends during peak time and to maintain a positive outlook and interactions during high-intensity periods.
Salary Range:
Mid $70,000 (commensurate with experience).
