Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field and one (1) year of related experience. Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetics Registration and Licensed Dietitian in the State of Kentucky. Grade 5 (Salaried)
Position Description:
The University of Louisville Athletic Department seeks candidates for a Sports Nutritionist I position to assist with providing nutritional support services to the University of Louisville Football student-athletes. This role will provide nutrition counseling and education to assist student-athletes in achieving optimal athletic performance and enhance recovery. The Primary responsibilities include team and individual nutrition oversight, providing clinical and/or medical nutrition therapy, assisting with food service and team meals, and managing databases and ordering systems.
The Sports Dietitian will be required to work a non-standard workweek, including some nights, weekends, and holidays, and travel with the team as needed for away games.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
_ Sports Nutrition Support _
Provide individual and team nutrition care for football student athletes, including pre- and post-exercise fueling, hydration strategies, and recovery nutrition.
Assist in delivering nutrition education programs for student-athletes and coaching staff.
Help coordinate team meals, travel nutrition, and catering services.
Support fueling station operations by ensuring proper stocking, organization, and accessibility of performance snacks and hydration products.
_ Individual Nutrition Counseling _
Conduct one-on-one nutrition consultations to support athlete health and performance.
Address nutrition topics such as weight management, body composition, hydration, meal planning, and dietary preferences/restrictions.
Develop individualized meal and fueling strategies based on training and competition schedules.
Medical Nutrition Therapy & Clinical Support
Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength coaches, and medical staff to provide nutrition interventions for injury recovery, illness, and dietary deficiencies.
Assist with monitoring iron levels, vitamin deficiencies, food allergies, and GI issues affecting performance.
Provide support for student-athletes with medical conditions requiring nutritional intervention.
_ Supplement & Vitamin Oversight _
Assist in researching, evaluating, recommending, and monitoring dietary supplements in compliance with NCAA regulations.
Educate athletes on safe and effective supplement use.
Help track and document supplement distribution and efficacy.
_ Education & Outreach _
Act as a nutrition resource for athletes, coaches, and staff.
Conduct grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, and hydration testing.
Participate in recruiting visits and educate prospective student-athletes on the department’s sports nutrition services.
_ Administrative & Operational Responsibilities _
Maintain accurate records of athlete nutrition plans, performance tracking, and meal logs.
Assist with ordering and inventory management of nutrition-related supplies.
Utilize Notemeal, Teamworks, and other systems for meal planning and monitoring.
Support intern and student assistant supervision at fueling stations.
_ Other Duties _
Support the Director of Sports Nutrition with additional departmental needs.
Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating projects that align with the vision of the Sports Nutrition Department.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience with an NCAA Division I program.
Background and strong interest in sports nutrition.
Knowledge of sports nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, eating disorders/disordered eating, and motivational interviewing.
Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.
Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and/or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
