The Sports Performance Professional Intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Sports Performance to assist in the design, implementation, and monitoring of athletic training programs for student-athletes. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in the field of sports performance, working with a diverse athlete population.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the creation and implementation of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
• Supervise and lead student-athletes during training sessions of assigned teams, ensuring proper form and safety.
• Assist in conducting performance assessments, such as strength testing, agility drills, and conditioning evaluations.
• Provide support during injury prevention programs.
• Help maintain equipment and the training facility, ensuring that all items are clean, safe, and operational.
• Attend meetings and collaborate with coaches, athletic trainers, and other staff.
• Assist with administrative tasks, including scheduling, record-keeping, and communication with athletes and staff.
• Support the development of educational materials and resources for athletes on strength, conditioning, and recovery strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.
• Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field is preferred.
• A strong passion for sports performance and athlete development.
• Previous experience working with athletes, either in an internship or as an assistant, is preferred.
• Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
• CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or other relevant certifications.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits:

• 10-month salary: $10,000 ($1,000/mo.)

Founded in 1851 in Newton, North Carolina, Catawba College was established by German pioneers. In 1890, Catawba became a coeducational institution. In 1925, the College moved to its current location in Salisbury, North Carolina, strategically located just 45 minutes from Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem and within two hours of the mountains and fours from the coast.

The Smokestack, a reclamation of the College’s old coal power plant, will be renovated according to Living Building Challenge stands and will provide an additional 10,000 square feet of student space. A new 150-bed residence hall is scheduled for completion in August 2026, and two additional residence halls are being renovated.
