Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited institution. Four (4) years of clinical experience in sports rehabilitation, preferably at the collegiate or professional level. Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) credential, with NATA and BOC certification. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of Kentucky. CPR/AED and First Aid Certification. Grade 10E (Salaried)
Position Description:
The University of Louisville Sports Medicine department is looking to fill a dual role, Certified Athletic Trainer and Doctor of Physical Therapy (ATC/DPT) position for the Athletic Department. This role combines both skill sets to enhance athlete care and operational efficiency.
The Sports Rehabilitation Specialist, Staff Athletic Trainer and Physical Therapist (ATC/DPT) will oversee and deliver comprehensive rehabilitation services to student-athletes across all sports programs at the University of Louisville. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic oversight, with a focus on post-injury rehabilitation and return-to-play decision-making. The position strengthens the department's partnership with UofL Health and Frazier Sports, enhances interdisciplinary collaboration, and creates revenue opportunities through billable services.
The candidate must have the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the department’s lead clinician for rehabilitation and corrective biomechanics services.
Deliver physical therapy to student-athletes with a focus on injury prevention, acute care, post-operative rehabilitation, and return-to-play progression.
Supervise assigned athletic trainers and physical therapists in clinical care and rehabilitation planning.
Collaborate with Sports Medicine, Athletic Performance, Sports Nutrition, Mental Health, Mental Performance, and Sport Science staff to coordinate individualized care plans.
Partner with UofL Health and Frazier Rehab to align treatment protocols and clinical documentation standards.
Lead the development of rehabilitation policies, protocols, and documentation practices that meet NCAA, state, and insurance compliance.
Participate in team physician clinics and assist with medical referrals and diagnostics.
Support and educate student-athletes and staff on home exercise programs and injury risk reduction.
Serve as a liaison for medical billing and clinic documentation for physical therapy services.
Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing service quality, operational efficiency, and revenue generation.
Provide clinical education and serve as a potential preceptor for DPT student rotations in collaboration with academic partners.
Maintain accurate records, complete insurance documentation, and support reimbursement workflows.
Participate in continuing education and professional development to maintain credentials and clinical expertise.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Completion or pursuit of Sports Certified Specialist (SCS) credential.
Experience leading or participating in biomechanical screening or movement analysis programs.
Experience working within a high-performance interdisciplinary team model.
Knowledge of NCAA Division I policies and best practices in student-athlete care.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
Strong understanding of injury evaluation, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and return-to-play criteria.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
