The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Arizona Athletics will be a strategic partner to the Athletic Director and the executive leadership team. This role is responsible for the financial stewardship and fiscal health of the athletics department, including financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting. The CFO will provide leadership and oversight of all financial operations, ensuring compliance with university policies, NCAA regulations, and state and federal laws.

This position requires the ability work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as needed.

Financial Strategy and Leadership:
Develop and implement financial strategies to support the athletic department's goals and objectives.
Advise the Athletic Director and executive leadership on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and policy matters.
Lead the financial planning and analysis functions to ensure the department's financial sustainability and growth.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Manage the development of the annual operating and capital budgets.
Monitor and manage budget performance, providing regular updates to the Athletic Director and other stakeholders.
Develop long-term financial forecasts and models to support strategic planning initiatives.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with university policies, NCAA regulations, and state and federal laws.
Coordinate annual audits and prepare necessary documentation.
Accounting and Financial Operations:
Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
Ensure effective internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Manage the preparation of tax returns and other financial filings.
Revenue Optimization:
Optimize financial performance through effective cost management and operational efficiencies.
Project long-term operating revenues, operating expenses, capital project expenses, debt service payments and fund balance.
Prepare expense and revenue reports, analysis, and summaries.
Oversee legal fees or other campus financial agreements or obligations.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team. Providing strategic leadership and oversight while coaching and developing staff to enhance leadership skills and expertise.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes professional growth and excellence.
Ensure continuous improvement in financial processes and systems.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as a liaison to university financial leadership and other key stakeholders.
Communicate financial performance and strategic initiatives to internal and external audiences.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners and constituents.
Analyzes and develops operational policies, plans, concepts, and approaches, providing recommendations to senior leadership and university stakeholders.
Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations, including NCAA compliance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

High ethical standards and integrity.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is required.
Ten years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in collegiate athletics or a similar environment.
MBA or CPA preferred.
Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University’s campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures.
