GVSU Athletics is recruiting a full-time staff athletic trainer to join our collaborative team of healthcare providers beginning June 16, 2025. As a member of the healthcare team, working under the direction of a physician and in accordance with Michigan licensure, this individual is responsible for the safe and effective direct delivery of patient care including injury and illness prevention, wellness protection, examination, assessment, diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, therapeutic intervention, healthcare administration and professional responsibility as it relates to the Standards of Professional Practice, the BOC Professional Standard of Practice and the BOC Practice Domains and Tasks.

Our team consists of 9 full-time clinical athletic trainers, 1 clinical adjunct athletic trainer, a non-clinical athletics healthcare administrator, 5 primary team physicians including a medical director and surgical director, 4 sport performance coaches, a contracted physical therapist, and an administrative assistant. We also work with a third-party administrator (TPA) for insurance claims.
Our purpose is to provide the highest quality student-athlete centered health care, wellness, and performance development. We are committed to collaboration with campus and community stakeholders to enhance the availability of resources.
This position includes State of Michigan Athletic Trainer licensure fee, professional organization dues (NATA/GLATA/MATS), BOC annual maintenance fee, staff parking, cell phone, computer/laptop and recreation center membership.
Salary & Benefits:
$47,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience

Primary Duties:
Clinical assignments either shared responsibility for men’s/women’s basketball and primary responsibility for men’s/women’s tennis OR primary responsibility for men’s/women’s cross country & track and field.
Communication and collaboration with sport coaches and sport performance coaches.
Coordination of care with other allied health care providers. Home and away event coverage.
Coordination of first aid/athletic training services for summer camps.
Other duties as assigned by manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree.
BOC Athletic Trainer Certification.
Must hold or be eligible for a Michigan Athletic Trainer License.
Strong commitment to and understanding of proper and timely documentation.
Organized, motivated and open to sharing ideas for improvement.
Robust interpersonal skills and the ability to counsel patients and interact professionally.
Driving to medical appointments (with mileage reimbursement) or with team travel may be required. Motor Vehicle background check will be conducted upon hire.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master’s degree.
5 years of clinical athletic training experience, with professional and or collegiate experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
Normal clinical environment. Travel required.
Physical Demands: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have the physical stamina to work 40 hours/week and/or more than 5 days per week. Must be able to lift 80 pounds.
