Salary Range: $65,000-$68,000
OVERVIEW:
The primary purpose of the Head Coach of Athletic Performance and Strength & Conditioning is to serve the overall health and welfare of each Manhattan College Student-Athlete while focusing on increasing athletic qualities such as speed, power, strength, mobility, and stability. Implementation of recovery methods and proper sports nutrition will be important to supplement the strength and conditioning program design in order to optimize performance and reduce the risk of sports-related injury. The Head Coach of Athletic Performance and Strength & Conditioning work closely with Sports Administrators, Coaches, and Athletics Trainers in order to effectively design and implement specific goals for each Student-Athlete. As an administrator, the successful candidate will have to manage the daily operations of athletics facilities, supervise additional staff, and maintain safe and professional work environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Design for all 18 Division I sports
Create individual and team specific training programs that are tailored for specific goals relevant to necessary athletics qualities. Programs are written in Micro, Meso, and Macro-cycles. For sports with specialized teams (le. Baseball, Lacrosse, etc) multiple programs per team are designed. Student-Athletes have programs designed for them 12 months of the year, including take-home packets for Summer and Winter academic breaks.
Coaching
Student-Athletes require hands-on attention during all strength and conditioning related sessions including team or individual lifts, conditioning sessions, recovery sessions, and occasionally warm-ups for practices and games.
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach must develop a schedule that allows the Strength & Conditioning Staff to safely and effectively implement coaching strategies that serve the goals of the student-athletes. This requires early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach must possess athletic qualities such as strength, power, fitness, and mobility in order to demonstrate safely and effectively to the student-athletes.
Administrative Meetings & Reports
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach must coordinate with all sport coaches to determine a weight room schedule for team lifts.
The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will work closely with administrators to see the needs and desires of the Coaches and Student-Athletes are being met.
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach must make themselves available for individual goal setting meetings, coordinate make-up times around academics, and provide feedback to the administration on operational advancements
Management
Manage day to day facility operations of the Student-Athlete weight room and other Strength and Conditioning Staff including a part-time assistant, volunteers, interns, and exercise science student-workers
Coaches/Sports Medicine Meetings & Reports
Work closely with the Sport Coaches to provide updated reports regarding roll call, performance numbers, team accountability and respect etc. Also work closely with Sports Medicine Staff to design and implement return to play protocols, as well as modifications for limitations due to injury.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time prior experience at the Division I level.
Assertive, outgoing, hard-working and resourceful.
Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships and create partnerships with a wide range of constituent groups.
Ability to design marketing materials; proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Photoshop preferred
Working knowledge of NCAA and MAAC rules and regulations.
Possess a valid driver's license.
Required to travel and the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong attention to detail and keep specific timelines.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to problem solve.
Ability to work effectively with coaches, students, faculty, administration, alumni, and community.
