About the Job

 

Design and implement 12 month strength and conditioning programs for each intercollegiate team to accomplish head coach goals using industry standards for development of programs and outcome assessment. Schedule team weight room hours and supervise team use of the weight rooms per NCAA bylaws. Ensure the safe operation of all equipment and spaces used. Work with the sports medicine staff to take into consideration the unique needs of each student-athlete.

Maintain records according to university and NCAA requirements. Comply with all department, campus, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Have a working understanding of NCAA bylaws regarding countable activities. Maintain a positive working relationship with student-athletes, coaches, staff, university community and the general public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop twelve month sports specific resistance programs for all 12 teams within the department. Work with head coaches to develop these strength and conditioning plans based upon the goals for each coach and team. Implement team specific strength and conditioning programs utilizing sound teaching principles. Assess student-athletes to determine strength, fitness levels and susceptibility toward injury. Work with Sports Medicine staff to identify injury trends which may benefit from additional strength or conditioning training. Work with Sports Medicine to modify programs as needed for student-athletes as needed for rehabilitation. Provides all of the above training and assessments within on campus facilities.
• Input and manage all student-athlete assessment data and progress tracking towards team and individual goals. Understanding FERPA and privacy in managing student-athlete data. Develop and implement strength and conditioning policies and procedures based upon NCSA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards. Maintain schedule of weight room for athletic team training.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology/Exercise Science or related field from an accredited institution.
• Advanced degree Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field from an accredited institution. (Preferred)
• 1-3 years experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning program. (Preferred)
• Certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning certification such as NCSA and CSCCA.
• CPR with AED.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, email, and calendaring software (Preferred)
• Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations applicable to the performance of this position (Preferred)
• Ability to use sound judgement and discretion in responding to issues and concerns and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and be flexible while performing a wide range of tasks concurrently and effectively.
• Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conferences, the NCAA as well as other associates and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
• Ability to establish effective goal-oriented relationships with coaches, staff, student-athletes, and the sports medicine staff. (Preferred)
• Continuing expert understanding and education related to NCSA and CSCCA.
• Reduces the likelihood of sports-related injuries or the aggravation of such injuries during practice sessions and scheduled contests by being knowledgeable of the injuries sustained in the sport and proper prevention methods, directing appropriate pre-training session and pre-contest preparations and warm ups, and working with qualified sports medicine personnel or athletic trainers during all training sessions and contests. (Preferred)
