Assisting the head coach with all phases of the Spirit Team (which includes cheer and dance members) including, but not limited to: practice preparation, performance coaching, making certain participants are up to date on physicals, fitness training and supervision, overall program administration, choreographing and teaching all dances to the team, some recruiting and fundraising (minimal). Collaborating with team captains and head coach to set goals, evaluate organizational needs, problem-solve, and serve as a liaison with other university departments essential to program implementation and success. The assistant coach will need to know and be able to respond to emergency situations as outlined in the Club Sports Handbook and level of certification. In addition, the assistant coach will support the Wellness and Recreation mission to mentor student leaders, develop programs that enhance the student experience at Regis University, and encourage a sense of campus community that reflects our Jesuit identity.
The Assistant Coach for Dance and Cheer provides leadership and direct support for all aspects of the university's dance and cheer club sports programs. This position assists in conducting practices, supervising performances at home competitions, and potentially traveling with teams to away events. The coach fosters a positive, inclusive team culture by mentoring student leaders, helping implement team policies, and supporting student development on and off the field.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation, the coach ensures the safety and well-being of participants by managing emergency protocols, addressing behavioral concerns, and promoting responsible conduct that reflects the university's values. Additional responsibilities include assisting with team fundraising, recruiting, and serving as a representative of the university at club sports events.
Rooted in Jesuit values, this role promotes cura personalis (care for the whole person) by supporting students' physical, social, and ethical development. By cultivating leadership, accountability, and community, the Assistant Coach contributes to the formation of student-athletes as engaged, reflective individuals committed to excellence and service.
MAJOR DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coaching Responsibilities
Home Competitions (in future, potentially away competitions)
Practices
Conduct organized practice sessions on a regular basis.
Assist in the planning and administration of dance team and cheer practices and fitness sessions.
Two or three practices a week for approximately two hours.
Direct Team Supervision
Team Captains
Help team captains from dance and cheer develop and maintain a positive team culture.
In conjunction with the team captains identify a set of rules or team code of conduct policy for team participants and presenting them to the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation before the first practice.
Home Games
Assist in the supervision of the dance team and cheer participants’ during home performance.
Help maintain order on and off the court.
Away Games (not required now but potentially in future)
Supervise Club team participants on overnight and away contests in a manner that reminds the club sports participants that they are representing Regis University.
Consult with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation before finalizing any travel plans that include overnight stays.
Emergency Response
Behavioral Issues
Respecting all Regis University policies and documenting all reports or observations of serious infractions. Code of Conduct policies are to be followed. Instances of non-compliance will be documented and turned into the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation.
Work with the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation to resolve both team and University code of conduct violations that occur during their teams club sports activities, which include games, practices, and off-campus violations that occur at or after away games.
Fund Raising
Assist Captains in team fund raising activities.
Recruit potential players by traveling to recruiting events.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
