In collaboration with athletic trainers, team physicians, sports psychologists, and strength and conditioning coaches, and in support of coaches, athletics administrators and department personnel, the UW/Dairy Farmers of Washington Performance Dietitian will work with the Director of Performance Nutrition to manage and deliver comprehensive nutritional services to approximately 650 student-athletes on 22 varsity athletic teams. The UW/Dairy Farmers of Washington Performance Dietitian will work directly with the Director of Performance Nutrition to perform the following: • Direct nutrition services for a variety of assigned Olympic sports. This includes executing team nutrition programming, plus managing a large case load of student-athletes (SA) and their individual medical and performance nutrition care. Conduct SA nutrition screenings and manage follow-up nutrition plans and planning. Conduct individual medical nutrition therapy for diagnoses such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, type 1 diabetes, stress fractures and bone health, celiac disease, severe food allergies, body composition management and interventions, pre- and post-surgical management, illness, eating disorders, REDs, disordered eating, and PCOS, among others. Educate on and review the appropriateness of SA supplement plans, including vitamins, minerals, and ergogenic aids, while staying within NCAA, anti-doping, and UW supplement guidelines. • Assist the Nutrition Operations Coordinator learning how to recruit, train, manage, and schedule workers; conduct product inventory and ordering; and create menus. Develop nutrition materials, cooking classes, and cooking demos to provide SAs with actionable and hands-on strategies to optimize their fueling. • Lead nutrition-focused sport science and data initiatives with assigned teams, including hydration, sweat rate, and body composition testing, while utilizing apps to help educate SAs and monitor their goals. Create reports to share data-led recommendations with the sport performance team. • Work collaboratively with the team physicians and other allied health care professionals. Actively participate in medical and staffing meetings. • Ensure accurate and thorough record keeping and documentation. Assist with other nutrition and administrative duties as assigned. Adhere to and carry out established policies and procedures. • Attend training table meals to provide nutrition coaching for student-athletes during meal service. • Serve as an expert resource for athletic teams for year-round menu planning, pre/post-game menu planning, and planning with hotel catering departments and restaurants for both home and away events. • Assist the Director of Performance Nutrition in mentoring and managing performance nutrition fellows and dietetic interns. This position requires compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: e.g., National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), regarding banned drugs and restricted substances. Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, food sciences, nutrition, and/or exercise physiology. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration. Additional Requirements: • Registered Dietitian (RD) and registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). • Specific work experience and knowledge as a Sports Dietitian with NCAA Division 1 athletics and/or professional sports teams. DESIRED REQUIREMENTS • Master’s degree in dietetics, food sciences, nutrition, and/or exercise physiology. • Certification/Licensure as required by state of practice. • Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). • Experience with body composition (DXA) and hydration testing (USG and sweat rate). • Knowledge of complementary medicine, ergogenic aids, and nutritional supplements with respect to NCAA and WADA guidelines. • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team. • State Food Worker Card and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of safe food service practices. • Demonstrated competence in nutrient analysis and meal planning. • Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy and therapeutic diet planning and implementation. • Possess excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and counseling skills. • Possess knowledge of signs and symptoms of eating disorder/disordered eating and be able to make recommendations to the medical team and the student-athlete.
