Job Description

The Video Services Architect will report to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Chief Information Officer.  The Video Services Architect functions as a technical designer for the services, technologies, and applications that support Athletics and Business Advancement video services including digital video encoders, fiber optic transport, terrestrial channel reception, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Radio Frequency (RF) design and implementation at our department sites and integration of video services content at all locations all while striving to ensure we provide the best possible solutions using cost-affordable designs. This position is considered a subject matter expert and complements broad knowledge of networking and video concepts, practices, and protocols with an applied development and advanced knowledge in one or more services areas including IPTV, RF, satellite, off-air, and broadcast delivery methods. The Video Services Architect, with guidance on overall objectives from leadership, manages complex video acquisition and delivery projects of large scope with significant and long-term impact and independently determines methods of completion. This position works closely with other IT architects, engineers, and specialists on evolutions to Video Service offerings and provides consultation to leadership, partners, and customers of our video services.

The Video Services Architect, with a focus on maintaining and improving department video services, executes leadership’s vision, and researches industry trends and new technologies to proactively identify opportunities to innovate and improve the quality of the portfolio. This position pursues methods for increased efficiency, leveraging services provided by our video content providers, simplifying, and minimizing our direct support for distribution of our various video services. The Video Services Architect develops new practices, processes and automations that alleviate the team from manually completing repeatable tasks. This position performs advanced network operations through reactive triaging and troubleshooting, identification and resolution of complex network issues involving our video services. All these responsibilities are accomplished with an eye towards maintaining the integrity and security of both infrastructure and connected devices while advocating for the stability and scalability of the overall department video services.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in a relevant field may be desirable. 5 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

At least 6 years’ experience with video systems, and video delivery, specifically; Broadcast engineering, IPTV and/or cable television infrastructure. Strong communication skills with ability to convey difficult and complex information with clarity and concision. Experience providing technical leadership on long term (1-2 year) projects. Proficiency learning and researching new technologies and methods, developing and testing solutions, and transitioning solutions to production environments. Advanced experience with system log analysis, event correlation, and capacity planning. Knowledge of BICSI, Jones/NCTI, and/or other industry and AV standards. Knowledge of installation and turn up of LAN switching equipment, proper terminations of coaxial cable and fiber optic cable connections. Familiarity with ITIL processes and good practices.
