Under supervision of the Head Coach and Director of Athletics, plan, teach and develop the women’s basketball program to ensure compliance with established guidelines and regulations of the
NCAA
for college/university sponsored events.
Follows all applicable
NCAA
, Lone Star Conference and institutional rules, standards, regulations, and requirements.
Recruits domestic and international students.
Oversees, updates, and educates staff as it relates to the athletic department’s international recruiting platform.
Assists in teaching the principles, practices, techniques, methods, and rules of basketball.
Assists in managing the budget while developing a business plan of yearly revenues and expenditures.
Develops safe and effective training and practice programs for student-athletes.
Works in an environment subject to frequent travel with exposure to varying climatic conditions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of collegiate playing and/or coaching experience; Master’s degree with a total of 6 years of both collegiate playing and coaching experience preferred. Graduate assistant experience counts. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Organizing and coordinating skills. Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements. Ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Skilled in examining current operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs. Program planning and implementation skills. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals. Skilled in the configuration and use of computerized database programs. Ability to provide leadership and guidance to administrative support staff and/or students. Communicates effectively with students, faculty, and staff at the secondary level. Knowledge of basic degree program content. Knowledge of rules governing residency in New Mexico for tuition purposes. Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications.
Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal office, field, and gym environments. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job. Ability to handle outdoor conditions for a majority of the time. Ability to move around campus, including gym, turf, fields, etc. Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Required to travel for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor, and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces, including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditorily assess situations to ensure health and safety. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication, conversation, and responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
