The head coach of the wrestling team is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the team. Liberty University Wrestling is an NCWA program that competes post season in the Mid Atlantic Conference and the NCWA Grand National Championships. The coach is responsible for the planning, scheduling, and organization of all practices and competitions. They are also expected to create and follow the team budget for each season. They are to understand and adhere to the Club Sports policies and procedures while attending department meetings and training sessions as needed. The head coach is also responsible for overseeing and leading the assistant coaches. The qualified applicant must show strong interpersonal communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coach and direct Men’s Wrestling team and activities throughout the year; plan and implement daily training schedule.
Teach proper technique and skill development on the college level. They should possess a thorough understanding of the sport while instructing student athletes in both group and individual settings.
Coordinate and schedule home and away competitions in accordance with NCWA regulations
Work with Club Sports staff to plan and develop travel itineraries for all travel trips.
Coordinate and schedule non-athletics team activities.
Work in conjunction with the Sports Performance Staff to develop complementary strength training program.
Distribute off-season fitness programs to guide student-athlete individual preparation.
Supervise all support staff, including Assistant Coaches, Volunteer assistants, and student-athlete support staff.
Accompany and supervise teams on all travel trips.
Plan and implement on-going recruitment strategy that aligns with identified program, department, and institutional objectives. Coordinate campus visits, maintain database of prospective student-athletes, and coordinate and track application fee waiver requests.
Plan and implement ongoing retention strategy which aligns with identified program, department, and institutional objectives.
Monitor academic progress through grade reports and other reports shared from Academic Advancement; Track academic progress per NCWA eligibility policies.
Promote student-athlete health well-being, confirm health and safety requirements, and coordinate with Athletic Trainer for pre-participation screening, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and injury prevention.
Support the mental health of student-athletes through development of strong/supportive team culture, conduct annual individual student-athlete meetings, and refer as needed or other LU student support services when appropriate.
Plan and implement Giving Day strategy and revenue generating opportunities; follow department and institutional foundation guidance to identify reasonable and attainable fundraising strategies and goals.

Plan and implement camps, clinics, or other events to meet revenue generation targets and generate revenue for program.
Participate in departmental marketing and communications, maintain Alumni relations, manage student-athlete alumni network or database for the men’s wrestling program, and work with Club Sports staff to establish regular communication regarding alumni activities, and donation and/or volunteer opportunities.
Perform administrative responsibilities, including managing student-athlete paperwork process and roster management, budget management, submitting travel rosters, and complete all NCWA coaching requirements, CPR and First Aid certifications.
Attend and participate in all Conference coach’s meetings, departmental staff meetings, and available professional development.
Monitor and manage electronic communication, such as Microsoft Teams, text messages, email, and submit any necessary website updates.
Work in collaboration with facilities and Club Sports department to ensure wrestling facility are safe, clean, visually appealing, and meet industry standards for competition; communicate practice and competition schedules, participate in scheduling of annual care and closure schedule, and recommend and track Facility repairs and improvements.
Order and track all necessary team apparel and equipment in accordance with all purchasing and branding guidelines and policies.
Identify and assign student-athletes to serve on disciple making team.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for the assistant men’s wrestling coaches.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Four-year college degree, 5+ years in a head coach wrestling position at the high school or collegiate level. Strong leadership experience is required. Well-developed communication skills. Completed coaching certification and/or registration with their respective governing body is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is an indoor athletics facility.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
